Mr. Radja
Consultant Orthopedic Knee Surgeon
MBBS, MS Ortho, MRCS, FRCS
I am a Consultant Orthopaedic Knee Preservation Surgeon specialising in knee instability, sports knee injuries, and knee arthritis. My clinical practice focuses on delivering personalised, evidence-based care with a strong emphasis on preserving the natural knee joint whenever possible, helping patients return confidently to an active and pain-free lifestyle.
I treat a wide range of knee conditions, including arthritis, ligament injuries (such as ACL tears), meniscal tears, patellofemoral (kneecap) problems, and complex knee pain. My surgical practice includes:
- Full and partial knee replacements
- Patellofemoral (kneecap) joint replacements
- ACL reconstruction
- Keyhole (arthroscopic) knee surgery
- Kneecap stabilisation procedures
- Joint-preserving knee realignment surgery (High Tibial and Distal Femoral Osteotomy)
In addition to knee surgery, I also offer hip replacements for patients with hip arthritis.
My passion lies in using innovative technologies and evidence-based techniques to make treatments less invasive and help patients restore mobility and independence
My Story
Qualifications
Training
A La Carte Knee Surgery & Joint Preservation Philosophy.
I practise “A La Carte” knee joint treatment, meaning that only the damaged part of the knee is treated while the healthy structures are preserved whenever appropriate. This philosophy aligns with modern knee preservation principles and has been shown to significantly improve both patient satisfaction and knee function.
I regularly perform joint-preserving realignment procedures, such as High Tibial Osteotomy (HTO) and Distal Femoral Osteotomy (DFO). These operations are especially valuable for younger or active patients, allowing them to delay knee replacement while continuing activities such as running, gym training, and sports.
Preserving the natural knee whenever possible is something I take great pride in, as it allows my patients to maintain their independence, performance, and quality of life.

Advanced Technology & Enhanced Recovery.
Training & Specialist Experience
I completed my undergraduate medical training at JIPMER, one of India’s leading medical institutions. I then emigrated to the UK, where I undertook my higher surgical training in Wales and Scotland.
During my training on the West of Scotland Orthopaedic Programme, I worked at the Golden Jubilee National Hospital, an internationally recognised centre and European Centre of Excellence for joint replacement surgery. Here, I developed strong expertise in hip and knee replacement surgery and enhanced recovery pathways.
My Approach to Patient Care
My aim is simple:
To provide personalised, high-quality, holistic care that helps every patient return to the activities they love with confidence.
I take time to fully understand each patient’s goals—whether that is returning to sport, staying active in later life, or simply living without daily pain. Every treatment plan is tailored to the individual, using the most appropriate non-surgical, joint-preserving, or surgical options available.
Research, Innovation & Education
I am actively involved in clinical research and education and believe strongly in advancing orthopaedic care through innovation.
- I currently lead the WHITE Trial at Tameside NHS Hospital, a major national study investigating treatments for hip fractures.
- I also lead the Poly Tape Trial for MPFL reconstruction, focused on patients suffering from patellar (kneecap) instability.
- I regularly present at international orthopaedic conferences and have published research in respected peer-reviewed journals.
- I serve as the Educational Lead for Junior Doctors at Tameside NHS Hospital, supporting the training of future surgeons.
